Your Mornings Are Making You Anxious (Here's How to Fix It)

Most working moms’ mornings start in chaos because they wake up already managing everyone else's day in their head.

Before your feet hit the floor, you're mentally running through that day’s to-dos—breakfast, meetings, who needs what, when, and how you're possibly going to get it all done, which in turn keeps you feeling anxious and on edge all day..

Here’s what’s happening: Your nervous system doesn't differentiate between actual danger and the mental load you're carrying at 6:47 am. It just knows threat detected, stay alert.

So you stay tense. Ready for the next interruption, the next need, the next thing that's going to go wrong.

And that’s why I recommend having a morning routine.

Not because it'll magically fix everything, but because giving yourself 10 minutes before you check your phone or serve anyone else helps you start the day calmer instead of already maxed out.

Instead of going from 0 to 100 the second your eyes open, you get to ease in. Your nervous system gets a signal: we're okay. We can slow down. We don't have to be in crisis mode yet.

That shift—from waking up already tense to waking up with a little space to breathe—changes how your whole day unfolds.

What a Realistic Morning Routine Actually Looks Like

10 intentional minutes before the chaos starts.

Three things that help:

1. Body before phone. Even 5 minutes of stretching, deep breathing, or just sitting in silence signals to your nervous system: we're safe. We can slow down.

2. One anchor habit. Sitting with your coffee without scrolling. A short walk. Prayer. Journaling. Pick one. Do it every morning. Consistency matters more than complexity.

3. Decide how you want to FEEL, then choose what to do. Calm? Grounded? Focused? Let that guide your morning.
